First, go to Pinterest.com and find the ‘Sign up’ button. Scroll down a bit, and you’ll see an option – ‘Create a business account’.

You’ll insert a bit of info about your business. Don’t worry about this part too much because you’re going to change your information later, so you’ll optimize your Pinterest the right way.

They’ll also ask if you’re interested in running ads. You can use them or not, that’s totally up to you.

At this point, you’ll have a new Pinterest Business account.

But what if you’ve been pinning your heart out on a personal account and don’t want to lose all that hard work? Read the next part below.

How to Convert Your Personal Account

You can simply convert your personal account to a business one. By doing this, you don’t lose your pins and followers.

Plus, you can always switch back to your personal account if you wish.

Once you have logged into your personal Pinterest account, look towards the top-right corner. There you’ll see an icon that looks like a downward arrow – click on that.

These are popular on Pinterest and pretty much tell you what people are actively looking for.

Next, you can check the Trends tool. You’re gonna love it! It shows you what keywords are trending right now.

Now, try to find many different keywords and make sure you save them. Just keep a simple notepad or a Word document to jot them down.

The only thing that you won’t see is the number of monthly searches. That means you won’t know if the keyword is searched by a lot of people.

3.) Optimize Your Pinterest Profile

Now that you have a list of keywords, it’s time to put them in your profile. This step is essential if you want to get your pins seen.

Start with your Pinterest name. Integrating relevant keywords will increase the chances of your profile showing up in user search results.

  • uploading an HTML file,
  • or adding a DNS TXT record to your website.

Each strategy varies depending on your website host. Let’s break it down.

  • The HTML tag method involves adding a specific piece of text to your website’s source code. Pinterest can then confirm that you indeed own the website you’re looking to claim. The exact process varies depending on the host of your website.
  • Alternatively, you can upload an HTML file. Pinterest will provide you with an HTML file that you upload to your website’s server. Once this is done, Pinterest can verify your website.
  • And finally, the DNS TXT record method. This involves adding text information to your website that acts as instructions for how the server should respond to a request. By adding a TXT record to your DNS, Pinterest can confirm your website ownership.

I didn’t do that at first, so I had to delete some of my early boards (oopsie).

You’ll use them in titles and descriptions to optimize your boards properly.

For example, maybe you’ll talk about small living room design. You could create a board titled “Cozy living room design.”

The next step is to write descriptions – they should be filled with relevant keywords, but make sure you don’t just stuff them in.

If you use AI for Pinterest, just make sure you fix up the descriptions so they sound like a human wrote them. Here’s an example below:

If you want to get the most traffic out of Pinterest, you should be using vertical pins. Why? Because they stand out.

  • Use a 2:3 aspect ratio: 1000 by 1500 pixels or 1080×1920 pixels.

These sizes look best on people’s feeds and catch more attention.

Now let’s talk about images on your pins. They must match the topic of your pin.

For example, if you’re sharing tips on how to use Pinterest for business, an image of a laptop, or someone working on a laptop would be perfect.

So, where do you start?

Jump on Pinterest and use the Pinterest search box or Pin Inspector to find “long tail keywords.” These are specific phrases that people are using to find tips and ideas.

  • For example, instead of searching ‘parenting tips,’ someone might look up ‘parenting tips for toddlers.’ That specific phrase is a long-tail keyword.

Now, once you find these keywords that match your pin content, where should you put them?

Add them to your pin title and description. But remember to write meaningful sentences that naturally include these keywords.

If you use AI, make sure it doesn’t sound robotic.

I started getting more traffic when I learned how to find Pinterest keywords and use them in the right way.

But crafting killer titles won’t work if you use fonts that are hard to read. Always use the ones that are easy on the eyes.

I’ve made this mistake many times before I learned that fancy fonts won’t get me more traffic.

It’s hard to make 10 pins a day if you don’t have a system. I can tell you from my own experience that it’s a lot of work and hard to stick with.

It’s better to commit to pinning 1-3 pins daily, especially at the beginning. Then, eventually, you’ll start creating pins quickly and post more.
